In Lagos, I once had to explain why egusi soup wasn’t just ‘vegetable soup.’ In Winnipeg, my description of suya as ‘spicy barbecue’ led to a comical misunderstanding about seasoning.
 These cultural differences remind me of the joy of learning—and that food always bridges the gap.
