Just Look Up

Walking down a busy street, it is easy to get caught up in your own world. You are thinking about where you are going, what you need to do, or whatever is happening in your own life.

Then you look up.

Maybe someone walking toward you catches your eye. You smile. They smile back, and a second later, you have both continued on your way.

It seems like such a small thing. But you never really know what kind of day the person coming toward you is having.

Maybe they are having a great day. Maybe they are having a terrible one. Maybe they have spent the whole day feeling like nobody has noticed them.

That little smile will not fix everything. It does not need to.

Sometimes it is just a reminder that another person saw you for a second and chose to give you a little kindness.

And that is the part I like about it. You do not need to know someone's story. You do not need to have a conversation. You do not even need to stop walking.

Just look up. Make eye contact. Smile.

You never know what that small moment might do for someone. And maybe they carry that feeling with them and pass it on to the next person they meet.

A small thing can still make a difference.
