The Default Version of You

It is easy to wake up one morning and realize you have been running on autopilot for years.

You take the job that made sense at the time. You absorb the habits of the people around you. You carry expectations that were never really yours to begin with, simply because it was easier to say yes than to cause friction.
Most people do not end up where they are because they chose it. They end up there because life kept moving, and they never stopped to steer.

Momentum is comfortable. Letting circumstances make your decisions means you never have to take the blame when things feel slightly off. But living by default comes with a quiet cost: you wake up inhabiting a life that was built for you, not by you.
Choosing who you want to be is rarely a dramatic, cinematic moment. It usually looks like a quiet refusal. Refusing to react the way you always react. Refusing to keep people pleasing just to avoid an awkward conversation. Taking a breath in the middle of a routine day in Winnipeg and asking yourself whether this is genuinely what you want to be doing, or just what is expected of you.

Life will always have a blueprint ready for you if you do not bring your own. You do not become the person circumstance handed you. You become the person you actually take the time to choose.
